Why is open source important?

Open source brings people's knowledge together for something greater then money and personal glory.

Open source is the true pursuit of equality; information is shared with everyone equally. Why should one person have dominion over a good idea? Too often are people trapped because they lack good information.

A company can be judged good or bad by how they acquired their advantage. Do they withhold information? Is society being taxed by companies with an exclusive ownership of a design.

When intellectual knowledge is shared; collaboration is the product. People start working together creating synergies. This is the power of open source, it creates communities instead of competitors.

People should not be limited by their access to good ideas, they should only be limited by their effort.
